WHAT’S HAPPENING IN ROME THESE DAYS – IN THEOLOGY, THE PRIESTHOOD, THE CHANGING CHURCH?  VIEWS FROM A NEWCOMER TO THE SCENE

Jim Corkery is an Irish Jesuit who taught systematic theology at the Milltown Institute of Theology and Philosophy, in Dublin, for more than twenty years. In 2009, he published Joseph Ratzinger’s Theological Ideas: Wise Cautions and Legitimate Hopes and a year later he co-edited, with U.S. Jesuit, Thomas Worcester, a collection of essays entitled The Papacy Since 1500: From Italian Prince to Universal Pastor.

His current areas of research and writing are: the Second Vatican Council, on which he has lectured in Ireland and in South Africa; contemporary approaches to the resurrection; and the almost 500-year life-span of the Society of Jesus, for an encyclopedia of which he is one of the associate editors.

In the autumn of 2014, he joined the Faculty of Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, where he lectures in fundamental and dogmatic theology.
