This Sunday Pope Francis will bless a 6ft scale model of a new sculpture by Tim Schmalz – ‘Let the Oppressed Go Free’ – ahead of the Feast of St Bakhita on 8th February, who is the patron saint of the anti-human trafficking movement.
‘Angels Unawares’ by Tim Schmalz was installed in St Peter’s Square in 2019, that 6m sculpture depicts a group of migrants and refugees from different cultures and of different times on a boat together.
