This poem –  ‘Get Married My Daughter’ – was written by ‘Unique’ which is the pen name of a 16 year old girl from Harare in Zimbabwe.

The poem was performed at the 2013 Trocaire / Poetry Ireland Poetry Competition Awards at the National Library in Dublin  on 28th May 2013.

The performers were Conor Burke, John Cleary, Keelan Dundon and Mary Kiely of the Crooked House Theatre Company from Newbridge Co. Kildare.

Trócaire and Poetry Ireland have for many years worked together in the classroom, using the medium of poetry to explore global justice issues. With our competition, we invite poets of all ages, from primary school through to adult, published or unpublished, to let their imaginations and love of language loose on the chosen theme.
